Masanan mu, Matasan mu, Social media profile da kuma prospects of climbing the social ladder!

As we strive to create an online social space for leisure, our actions are fast becoming a measure of our character. In recent times prospective employers (more than 80%) have confirmed that they check the social media profile of prospective job seekers to gauge their character. In fact, some embassies require you to disclose your social media handle (not password) as part of their background check. Although, most employers view LinkedIn as the most relevant platform, some others are still interested in your more personal social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

I am not a job creator yet, but if I were to be one tomorrow, I will know whom to employ from the Facebook updates of my friends.

You are a graduate (or student) of let's say, agriculture, yet your profile shows no content of your educational background, it also shows no analysis of the current trend affecting your field. Nothing!! Zilch!!

Abin takaici, matasa da ya kamata a ce suna karance-karance da bincike akan sabbin abubuwan dake fitowa a fannin su, suna sanar da jama'a inda duniya ta nufa, amman kash, se ka ga, gasar saka hotuna, tsurku (gossip) da kuma maula shi ya fi tsone musu idanu.
Ko da ko baka da sana'ar da za ka saka a profile din ka, kana iya duba inda abubuwa suka nufa a fannin ka, ka d'an rubuta sharhi a bisa fahimtar ka. Idan wani daga cikin abokan ka ya duba profile din ka, wannan sharhin na iya birge shi ya nunawa abokan sa. Ba ka san inda wannan ze kai ka ba.

Daga cikin dabi'a an, nakan duba profile din wanda ya turon friend request naga yadda yake nazarin rayuwa kafin nayin karbi request din sa/shi. Amman duk da haka in ka duba labarun da shafin jaridun Nigeria ke rawaito akan abubuwan da suka shafi kasar mu, ko ma ya shafi matasa, se kaga qadan ne daga cikin matasa ke iya yin cikakken nazari da rubutu akan wannan labarin. In ka duba comment section din, babu wani abu me ma'ana daga zagi se kabilanci; qadan ne ke yin nazari mai nuna fahimtar abin da ake magana.

That's not even the scary part. The fact that you have professionals having social media profile but hardly write any views/essay on government policies, social orientation, reviews and of course proferring solutions for our social ills. You will see an expert in a certain field turning him/her self into an expert in sharing other peoples' opinion or content, or resorting to putting likes in other posts. They hardly start conversations but join the bandwagon when the conversation gains momentum. With experts/professionals like that, there is little wonder that the youths are also redundant.

The way out is simple; self develop yourself and package yourself optimally. You don't know who is keeping an eye on your profile

THE INSTITUTE FOR AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH (IAR) SAMARU RELEASES IMPROVED VARIETIES FOR FOOD SECURITY AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The approval was granted at the just concluded 29 th meeting of the National Varietal Release Committee (NVRC), through the National Committee on the Naming, Registration and Release of Crop Varieties, Livestock Breeds and Fisheries held at the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. At the meeting, five improved maize varieties,   SAMMAZ 59, SAMMAZ 60, SAMMAZ 61, SAMMAZ 62 and SAMMAZ 63, with an average yield potential above 5.0 tons/hectare and tolerant to maize streak virus, rust, leaf blight, and curvularia leaf spot were approved for registration and released.   Dear Nigeria, can we leave our universities public or make them public/private?   Political changes have compelled our Nigerian politicians to be ardent supporters of privatization. We were slow to the party, but at least we are catching up. Then suddenly, we started reversing the trend before it reached the universities.
